Johns Hopkins Hospital, an integral part of Johns Hopkins Medicine, is a 1,085-bed medical, research and teaching facility serving patients from the Baltimore area and around the world. There are 9,294 employees on staff, including 1,714 attending physicians. In one recent year, more than 790,000 outpatients received treatment at the hospital; 47,275 patients were admitted. The emergency room treated more than 86,000 patients.

Johns Hopkins Hospital is one of the top hospitals in the nation. U.S. News and World Report ranked it first in three specialties: Ear, Nose & Throat, Rheumatology and Urology. The hospital was also ranked in the top 16 hospitals in 13 other specialties. It was the first hospital in Maryland to receive the Magnet Designation for Nursing Care, which was bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
